Minor to Moderate Flood Warning for the Hunter River

at Scone, Muswellbrook, Denman and Singleton

MINOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT MUSWELLBROOK AND DENMAN THURSDAY.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT SINGLETON FRIDAY

Kingdon Ponds at Scone peaked around 4.37 metres around 4:30am Thursday morning, just below the major flood level. River levels at Scone have now fallen below minor levels. As the flood waters move downstream, minor flooding is expected at Muswellbrook this afternoon and will peak at Denman overnight tonight with minor flooding.

The flood water from the Upper Hunter, will combine with inflows from the Goulburn River and Wybong Creek causing minor and possibly moderate flooding at Singleton on Friday.

Upper Hunter:

Minor flooding is expected at Muswellbrook and Denman.

The Scone at Kingdon Ponds is currently at 2.37 metres and falling.

The Hunter River at Muswellbrook may peak near 7.20 metres around 05:00 pm Thursday, with minor flooding.

The Hunter River at Denman may peak near 6.50 metres overnight Thursday into Friday, with minor flooding.

Lower Hunter:

Moderate flooding possible at Singleton

The Hunter River at Singleton is expected to exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) Friday morning. The river level is expected to reach the moderate flood level (11.50 m) overnight Friday into Saturday.

  • * Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
  • * Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
  • * Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
  • * Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.
