Severe Weather Warning
for damaging winds
for people in the Snowy Mountains forecast district

Weather Situation

A cold front is approaching New South Wales from the west, with northwesterly winds reaching gale-force over Alpine peaks this morning. Conditions are expected to gradually ease through the afternoon.

DAMAGING WINDS averaging around 80 km/h with gusts to 100 km/h are forecast for areas above 1900 metres in the Snowy Mountains forecast district this morning and early afternoon.

Thredbo Top Station recorded gusts to 107 km/h this morning.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
  • Keep clear of fallen power lines.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EDT Tuesday.
