Severe Weather Warning
for damaging winds
for people in the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts

LOCALISED DAMAGING WINDS IN THE SOUTHEAST.

Weather Situation

Westerly winds are expected to increase further about the southern ranges and Illawarra this morning ahead of a strong cold front. Winds will gradually ease this afternoon as the front weakens.

DAMAGING WINDS averaging around 65 km/h with gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for the Southern Tablelands and Illawarra forecast districts and for higher parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district today. Alpine Peaks may experience winds around 80 km/h with peak gusts to 120 km/h.

Thredbo Top station reported a wind gust of about 100 km/h this morning, and Goulburn and Moss Vale reported gusts of almost 80 km/h.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
  • Keep clear of fallen power lines.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Monday.
