Secondary Distribution of Bureau of Meteorology Information

Permission can be granted to download and redistribute all the standard forecasts, charts, climate and summary information that are currently freely Available on the Bureau's Web Site.

The free to web information can be downloaded from the Web or from the FTP site.

Any use in this way must comply with the following:

  • the Bureau of Meteorology should be identified as the source of the information
  • the Bureau of Meteorology's copyright be acknowledged
  • that the information is presented with the permission of the Bureau
  • any Bureau copyright statement or logo included in a product must be retained
  • responsibility for any repackaging, including quality and timeliness of the services, should be clearly stated as that of the host organisation
  • all text or graphical re-presentation of forecasts must include the issue time and date and the validity of the period
  • the web services on which Bureau of Meteorology data and products are displayed, should contain a prominent link to the Bureau's home page
  • there are significant quality control and liability issues for any secondary distributor associated with the redistribution of warnings. Therefore a pointer to our warning page is recommended in preference to downloading from the Web or FTP. Secondary Distribution of Subscription Products

Observations In addition to the summary observations on the free part of the Web, all current Australian observations are available via FTP and/or Web as a subscription service. The data sets have been established for the express purpose of facilitating plotting for web or other graphical displays and therefore include latitude and longitude.

Other Registered User Subscription Products Secondary distribution of other subscription products requires a formal agreement.

Acknowledgements

The satellite images available via the Bureau web site are obtained from non-Bureau sources. The satellite images may be from geostationary satellites such as: the GMS series; GOES-9; the MTSAT series; and the Feng Yun Series or from the polar orbiting satellites such as the NOAA series and Feng Yun series. Such images are provided with the permission of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) or the United States National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Any use of these images requires the following acknowledgement(s):

Geostationary satellite data

  • If the image was from GMS-1, GMS-2, GMS-3, GMS-4 or GMS-5 (old imagery), then the acknowledgement is (with the appropriate number replacing the "(n)"): Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the geostationary satellite GMS-(n) operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  • If the imagery is from GOES-9, then the acknowledgement is: Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the geostationary GOES-9 operated by the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on behalf of the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  • If the imagery is from the MTSAT series, then the acknowledgement is (with the appropriate number replacing the "(n)"): Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the geostationary satellite MTSAT-(n) operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  • If the imagery is from the geostationary Feng Yun series, then the acknowledgement is (with the appropriate number replacing the "(n)"): Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the geostationary satellite Feng Yun (n) operated by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

Polar Orbiting satellite data

  • If the imagery is from the NOAA series, then the acknowledgement is (with the appropriate number replacing the "(n)"): Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the polar orbiting satellite NOAA-(n)operated by the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
  • If the imagery is from the Polar Orbiting Feng Yun series, then the acknowledgement is (with the appropriate number replacing the "(n)"): Satellite image originally processed by the Bureau of Meteorology from the polar orbiting satellite Feng Yun (n)operated by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).
