Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge over the state will drift eastwards and settle in the Tasman Sea through Wednesday followed by front approaching from the west Thursday morning. This front will sweep across the state through Thursday and early Friday before a new high pressure ridge develops in it's wake, reaching the east coast late Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Patchy morning fog and frost mainly in the north and west, becoming a mostly sunny and dry day. A generally warm day with temperatures above average. Light to moderate northwesterly winds, turning northeasterly in the evening. Afternoon coastal seabreezes.
Thursday 16 October
A mostly sunny and dry morning. Cloud and showers extending from the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Possible thunderstorms developing from the afternoon in the west, becoming more likely near the South Australian border. A warm to hot day with temperatures well above average. Moderate north to northwesterly winds, fresh and gusty at times ahead of a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly change, reaching western and central districts by the evening.
Friday 17 October
Partly cloudy with possible showers on and south of the Divide, clearing by the evening. Possible early morning thunderstorms across the north. A mild day across the state with temperatures generally near average. Moderate west to south westerly winds extending throughout, freshening near the coasts.
Saturday 18 October
Partly cloud with light isolated showers possible for southern Gippsland, otherwise mostly dry. Isolated fog and frost in the west and about the ranges. A mild day with temperatures near average, grading to warm and slightly above average temperatures in the north west. Light and variable winds turning to moderate north to northeasterlies through the afternoon.
