for the period until midnight EDT Thursday 26 November 2009.

Warning Summary at issue time

Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm east of Gabo Island.

Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons Promontory.

Strong wind warning is current for Port Phillip.

Strong wind warning is current for Western Port.

Strong wind warning is current for Gippsland Lakes.

Weather Situation

A low pressure system will continue to move rapidly southeastwards across Tasmania overnight. A high pressure ridge will extend over Victoria on Monday while a weak cold front crosses Tasmania. The high pressure system will move across Victoria on Tuesday to eventually reach the Tasman Sea later on Wednesday ahead of a trough of low pressure later in the west on Thursday.

Forecast for the rest of Sunday

Isolated showers on and south of the ranges, more scattered in the east with isolated clearing thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, stronger near the coast.

Forecast for Monday

Fine over the north. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the coast and mostly clearing. Mild with moderate west to southwest winds, fresh near the coast.

Forest Fire Danger: Low.

Grassland Fire Danger: Moderate to high in the northwest.

Forecast for Tuesday

Fine apart from local morning fog in the south. A mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds.

Forecast for Wednesday

Fine apart from local morning fog in the south. A warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.

Forecast for Thursday

Isolated showers in the west extending eastwards during the day. Mild to warm with mainly moderate northerly winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes in Gippsland.
