Victoria State Forecast

Issued at 5:00 am EST on Monday 6 July 2009
for the period until midnight EST Thursday 9 July 2009.

Warning Summary at issue time

Frost warning for the Northern Country, Mallee, North Central and Northeast forecast districts.

Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm east of Gabo Island.

Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Cape Otway and Wilsons Promontory.

Weather Situation

A low pressure complex over the Tasman Sea will weaken and begin to move eastwards on Monday allowing a high pressure system over Bight waters to move eastwards and cross Victoria on Tuesday. The high will move east of Bass Strait on Wednesday to be centred over the Tasman Sea on Thursday.

Forecast for the rest of Monday

Morning frost patches in the north. Isolated showers in the south, scattered about the central and Gippsland coast, clearing in the west later in the day and from central parts tonight. Moderate west to southwest wind, fresh to strong about the central and Gippsland coast, slowly turning more southerly during the day and easing from the west.

Forecast for Tuesday

Widespread morning frost and local fog. Isolated showers in Gippsland, contracting to the far east, otherwise a dry mainly sunny day to follow the cold morning. Generally light winds.

Forecast for Wednesday

Widespread morning frost and local fog then a fine day although isolated showers developing in the southwest later. Cool with chiefly light winds.

Forecast for Thursday

Morning frost and fog, mainly in the east. Isolated showers in the southwest. Cool with northerly wind increasing in the west.
