Tropical cyclone Owen is located over the southwestern Gulf of Carpentaria, and is expected to become slow moving this morning and then adopt an easterly track later today. Conditions are favourable for further intensification.

Tropical System Location

At 7:00 am EST Severe Tropical Cyclone Owen was located about 50 nautical miles southeast of Port Roper and 45 nautical miles northwest of Port McArthur. Centre located near 15.3S 136.0E. Recent movement has been towards the southwest at 5 knots.

West of Mornington Island: Above 64 knots possible depending on movement and development of Severe Tropical Cyclone Owen. East of Mornington Island: Northeast to easterly 20 to 30 knots, with winds above 64 knots possible during the evening west of Karumba, depending on the movement and development of Severe Tropical Cyclone Owen.

Seas and swell exceeding 8m west of Mornington Island. Seas 2 to 3 metres east of Mornington Island, increasing to above 6m west of Karumba during the evening.
