FLOOD WARNING FOR THE DIAMANTINA RIVER

Issued at 10:30 am EST on Saturday 30 July 2016

by the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane.

Issue Number: 2

Minor to moderate flood levels are occurring on the Diamantina River between Elderslie and Monkira.

The river level rises on the Diamantina River are due to the significant rainfall that fell over the upper Diamantina River and Western River catchments during the weekend of 16-17 July.

DIAMANTINA RIVER TO DIAMANTINA LAKES:

Minor flood levels are easing on the Diamantina River at Elderslie. Moderate flood levels are easing slowly at Diamantina Lakes where the river level is approximately 3.5 metres above the causeway.

DIAMANTINA RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF DIAMANTINA LAKES:

River level rises have been recorded at Monkira and are expected to be above the minor flood level (2.9 metres) and rising. Rises are expected to continue for the next 3 to 4 days to around the moderate flood level (4.0 metres).

Predicted River Heights/Flows:

Birdsville: Upstream floodwaters are expected to arrive at Birdsville towards the middle of August. If the minor flood level (4.0 metres) is likely to be exceeded, formal predictions will be made when the floodwaters are within a few days of reaching Birdsville.

Remember: If it's flooded, forget it.
