Initial Minor Flood Warning for the lower Dawson River

MINOR FLOOD PEAK EXPECTED AT BARALABA OVERNIGHT FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY

A flood peak caused by heavy rainfall over the upper Dawson River catchment last week is currently moving along the lower Dawson River between Moura and Baralaba.

Showers and areas of rainfall are expected later Friday and during Saturday. A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Fitzroy River basin, including the Dawson and Don rivers, and their tributaries.

The situation will be monitored closely and this Flood Warning will be updated if rainfall is expected to worsen the flooding situation or cause flooding within additional parts of the Fitzroy River basin.

Dawson River to Theodore:

River levels along the Dawson River to Theodore are below minor flood levels and continuing to ease.

Dawson River downstream of Theodore:

Minor flooding is expected along the Dawson River downstream of Theodore.

River level observations are unavailable for the Dawson River at Moura but based on river level data at the nearby automatic station, the Dawson River at Moura is expected to be above the minor flood level (6.00 m) and easing on Friday afternoon. The Dawson River at Moura is likely to fall below the minor flood level (6.00 m) Friday evening.

River level observations are unavailable for the Dawson River at Baralaba but based on river level data at the nearby automatic station, the Dawson River at Baralaba is expected to be below the minor flood level (4.00 m) and rising on Friday afternoon. The Dawson River at Baralaba is expected to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Friday afternoon. The river level may peak near 5.70 metres overnight Friday into Saturday, with minor flooding.
