Minor Flood Warning for the Moonie River

MINOR FLOODING EASING AT THALLON BRIDGE

Floodwaters are continuing to move through the lower Moonie River following heavy rainfall in mid-May. The flood peak in the lower Moonie River is approaching the Queensland and New South Wales border.

No significant rainfall has been recorded over the last few days. Further thunderstorms are forecast, but significant rainfall totals are not expected.

Moonie River downstream of Flinton:

Minor flooding is easing along the Moonie River at Thallon Bridge, with moderate flooding easing further downstream at Fenton.

Based on river level observations at the nearby automatic station, the Moonie River at Nindigully is expected to be below the minor flood level (2.20 metres) and falling. The Moonie River at Nindigully is likely to remain below the minor flood level (2.20 m).

The latest water level reading for Moonie River at Thallon Bridge was 4.38 metres and falling at 05:50 pm on Wednesday, with minor flooding. The Moonie River at Thallon Bridge may fall below the minor flood level (4.00 m) early Friday morning.
