Minor Flood Warning for the Barcoo River

Flood Warning Number: 14

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BLACKALL, JERICHO AND BARCALDINE DURING TUESDAY

Rainfall totals of up to 25 mm were recorded in the upper Barcoo River catchment in the 24 hours to 2 pm Monday. Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the next few days, with possible heavy rainfalls at times particularly with storms.

Barcoo River to Isisford:

Minor flooding may occur along the Barcoo River to Isisford.

There are no current level observations available for Jericho, but river levels are expected to be below the minor flood level (2.00 m). The Jordan River at Jericho may exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Tuesday based on forecast rainfall.

There are no current level observations available for Barcaldine, but river levels are expected to be below the minor flood level (3.00 m). The Alice River at Barcaldine may exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) during Tuesday based on forecast rainfall.

No observations are available from the Blackall manual gauge, however based on river levels at the nearby Blackall automatic station river levels peaked at 3.21 m around 8 pm Sunday 28 November, and fell below the minor flood level (2.00 m) early Monday morning. Renewed river rises at Blackall may exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) Tuesday morning. Further rises are possible during the next few days from forecast rainfall.

Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:

The flood peak is currently downstream of Retreat. Renewed river level rises are possible during the next few days.

The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 1.61 metres (below minor) and steady. The Barcoo River at Retreat is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.10 m) during Monday and into Tuesday. However. renewed rises are possible during the next few days which may result in river rises back to the minor flood level later in the week.
