Safety Advice

  • Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone.
  • Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
  • Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
  • Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
  • If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures will rise into the forties in central and western parts with overnight minimum temperatures up to the high twenties. In eastern areas, maximum temperatures will rise to the mid to high thirties with overnight minimum temperatures up to the mid-twenties. Heatwave conditions are expected to ease over the southeast by the weekend, but continue over northern and central parts into next week.

Locations likely to be impacted include Burketown, Cloncurry, Camooweal, Croydon, Doomadgee, Georgetown, Kowanyama, Mount Isa, Moranbah and Normanton.

The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EST on Thursday 8 December 2022
