Current work and responsibilities

Chris Tingwell works in the team responsible for the assimilation of meteorological observations in the Bureau of Meteorology's ACCESS Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) systems. His current focus is on the use of a relatively new technique to quantify the impact of each assimilated observation on the accuracy of forecasts produced by the global ACCESS NWP system. Such impact data may guide further development of the assimilation system and the assessment and planning of the Bureau's observation networks.

His other interests include the assimilation of satellite observations in ACCESS NWP systems, and the verification of ACCESS forecast performance.

Chris also convenes a working group which helps co-ordinate, review and document work on the development and maintenance of ACCESS NWP systems.
