Grant Smith

Senior Research Scientist

Current work and responsibilities

I am currently working in the seasonal prediction team on marine applications of seasonal forecasts, specifically for coral bleaching risk management. As part of this project, I undertake model skill assessment using various metrics, and develop useful coral bleaching products in consultation with key stakeholders (eg. GBRMPA).

I am also currently responsible for running the high resolution wave hindcast monthly which provides wave data around Australia and south west Pacific Islands Countries.

Previously, at the Bureau, I worked on the Climate and Ocean Support Programme for the Pacific (COSPPac) as an Oceanographer. As part of this role, I was primarily involved with the development of ocean products that were applicable for the Pacific, as well as training Pacific met staff and stakeholders in ocean science and applications.
