Current work and responsibilities

My research focuses on development and application of high resolution satellite sea surface temperature (SST) products, to support operational ocean and weather forecasting and research. For example, I developed the operational daily SST analyses, RAMSSA and GAMSSA, which are used as the boundary condition for the Bureau's Numerical Weather Prediction models. I also have a particular interest in the diurnal variation of sea surface temperature and the validation of satellite SST.

Since 2007, I have led two Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) Sub-facilities - Satellite SST Products and SST Sensors for Australian Vessels. Since 2008 I have also led the Tropical Warm Pool SST Diurnal Variability (TWP+) Project (see Beggs et al., 2012).
