Phil Reid

Antarctic Scientist

Current work and responsibilities

Phil Reid conducts Antarctic Research within the Weather and Environment Prediction team of the Bureau of Meteorology. He works closely with researchers at the Australian Antarctic Division, Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre, Australian Antarctic Gateway and many international research organisations.

His main research areas of interest include understanding the non-trivial interactions between the atmosphere, ocean and cryosphere and the development and analysis of relevant components of the ACCESS for polar forecasting. He is passionate about understanding our broader climate system, particularly as it relates to the cryosphere, through analysis of multi-variable climate elements and dynamic modelling over a wide range of time-scales.

Phil has worked on numerous expert teams and is currently involved in the Polar Prediction Project, Antarctic Sea Ice Prediction Network (SIPN-South) and the International Ice Charting Working Group (IICWG).
