Current work and responsibilities

My research focuses on development and evaluation of radiative transfer, cloud, and aerosol optical properties parameterizations used in NWP and climate models. I am currently working on the modification of the surface radiation modelling in ACCESS model in order to improve model land-surface simulation and solar energy forecasting. I have developed several parameterizations, some of which have been committed back to the Met Office trunk version of UM and remainder are under evaluation. I also take responsibility to ensure the ACCESS model physical configurations are correct for the Bureau NWP applications and conduct AMIP and CMIP style climate simulations to test the model physical modifications.

I have close collaborations with Met Office on the modification of MetUM radiation scheme, with China Meteorological Administration on number of projects including solar energy forecasting, aerosol forcing, and model physical evaluations.

I have editorial roles for Advances in Atmospherical Sciences and Chinese Journal of Meteorology and Environment
