The SILO information reservoir

The SILO Information Reservoir

blankspace  Agriculture, perhaps more than most human activites, is strongly influenced by the weather. But the modern farmer need not be a slave to the elements. An understanding of long term climate patterns, and the variable day to day weather which affects life on the farm can significantly increase efficiency in both time and crop output. These pages are provided to help describe the relationship between meteorology and argiculture and assist with effectively harnessing that knowledge.

So how is the SILO Information Reservoir organised? First we distinguish between what is meant by the two terms climate and weather. A detailed section helps describe some key features of the weather and the way in which it is measured, after which we provide a few ideas on how the past, present and future can be integrated as part of the farm management process. Several more detailed case studies illustrate a few of these points in more detail. Finally some further reference material is provided.
