Rainfall Reliability Wizard

Rainfall Reliability Wizard

The Rainfall Reliability Wizard is an experimental web page developed and maintained by the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS). The Wizard aims to help analyse long-term rainfall data for Australia. The Wizard can be used to produce Australian maps of rainfall means, variability and reliability.

There are six different modes used in the Reliability Wizard.

  1. Event analysis - millimeters
The Reliability Wizard produces a map of approximate rainfall (mm) during the period selected by the user
  2. Event analysis - percentile
The Reliability Wizard generates a percentile rainfall map for the period chosen by the user
  3. Historical analysis - mean
Depending on period selected by the user, the Reliability Wizard can produce a map of approximate mean rainfall (mm) for the season
  4. Historical analysis - percentile
With this mode, the user needs to define a season and a percentile for the Reliability Wizard to generate a map of approximate rainfall (mm) for the season corresponding to the given percentile
  5. Historical analysis - reliability-seasonal
By selecting a season and providing a target rainfall amount in mm, the Reliability Wizard will produce a map showing the approximate proportion of years that the target rainfall amount has been exceeded
  6. Historical analysis - reliability-within season
In this mode, the user is required to select a season as well as to enter a target rainfall amount in mm for each month of the selected season. The Reliability Wizard can then generate a map depicting the approximate proportion of years that the target rainfall amount has been exceeded in all the months chosen
