Severe Weather Warning
for damaging winds
for people in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts
Issued at 10:50 am EDT on Wednesday 25 November 2015.
A warm to hot northwesterly airstream will strengthen over Victoria today ahead of a low pressure trough reaching the west in the afternoon, extending into central then eastern areas at night. A strong cold front will follow the trough across the State on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS of 50 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90-100 km/h are forecast to develop over the South West and Wimmera districts this morning, extend to the Mallee, North Central, Central and Northern Country districts in the afternoon, then to elevated parts of the North East and West and South Gippsland forecast districts late in the afternoon and evening with peak gusts to 110 km/h possible about the Alpine peaks.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
