UPDATED NOTES ON THE WEATHER FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Issued at 8:44am WST on Wednesday the 15th of February 2012

SYNOPTIC SITUATION AND FORECAST EXPLANATION:
A weak ridge of high pressure lies south of the state with a broad surface
trough over western inland parts of the state. Generally sunny conditions over
southern parts for Wednesday with some smoke haze near the west coast and
isolated morning showers and thunderstorms over the southeast Interior. Isolated
afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms should develop over northern and
western parts of the Kimberley, far eastern Pilbara, and far northern Interior.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS:
Early on Thursday morning a middle level disturbance may combine with the
surface trough to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far SE
Central Wheat Belt, eastern Great Southern, Southeast Coastal district and the
southern Goldfields. Shower and thunderstorm activity should contract east in
the afternoon to lie over the SE Goldfields, western Eucla and the Southeast
Coastal district as the surface trough and middle level disturbance move east.
Isolated mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms over the north
and west Kimberley and near the coast over the central and east Pilbara.
Some late evening showers or drizzle activity is possible near the south coast
west of Walpole as a weak front passes, extending the south coast west of Bremer
Bay on Friday morning before clearing as a new ridge of high pressure develops
to the west of the state. Isolated mostly afternoon and evening showers and
thunderstorms over the north and west Kimberley and over the Pilbara and over
the NE Goldfields, SW Interior and the Eucla.
As the ridge extends south of the state on Saturday, isolated showers or drizzle
patches are likely over the Southwest district and adjacent parts of the Great
Southern and the South Coastal district.
A middle level disturbance may bring some isolated thunderstorm activity over
the southern Goldfields and adjacent western Eucla during Saturday.
Isolated mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms over the north
and west Kimberley and over the Pilbara.
