EXTENDED PERIOD FORECAST FOR THE SOUTHWEST LAND DIVISION
Issued at 12:31pm WST on Wednesday the 15th of February 2012

SYNOPTIC SUMMARY:
A weak ridge of high pressure lies south of the state with a broad surface
trough over inland parts of the SW Land Division. Generally sunny conditions
over most parts, with some smoke haze about the west coast.
Early on Thursday morning a middle level disturbance may combine with the
surface trough to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Great
Southern, South Coastal, and the Southeast Coastal districts. The isolated
showers and thunderstorms will contract eastwards into the southern Goldfields
and western Eucla during the afternoon. Smoke haze is expected to persist about
the west coast.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS:
On Friday the surface trough will move into eastern parts of the state, and a
high pressure ridge will develop near the west coast. Some drizzle activity is
possible near the south coast west of Walpole in the onshore flow. Some smoke
haze may still be possible near the west coast.
As the ridge extends south of the state on Saturday, isolated drizzle areas are
likely over the southern parts of the SW Land Division.
On Sunday a high pressure system moves south of the state. A surface trough will
develop in southern parts of the Gascoyne and the adjacent NE Central Wheat
Belt. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms near the surface trough.
Isolated areas of morning drizzle in the SE Coastal district.
