GIles Area Travelling Information


Anyone wishing to enter the Ngaanyatjarra Lands must obtain a permit application form from the Ngaanyatjarra Council office in Alice Springs. Our contact details are as follows:

Standard Transit Permits are valid for a period of three (3) days ONLY and may be issued almost immediately. The classification for a Standard Transit Permit is anyone wishing to travel the Great Central Road from the NT Border to Laverton and from Laverton to the NT Border. The Aboriginal Lands Trust in Perth has the authority to issue a Standard Transit Permit on behalf of the Ngaanyatjarra Council and their contact details are as follows:

For anyone wishing to enter any of the CLOSED Ngaanyatjarra communities, applications are only available through Ngaanyatjarra Council. These type of permits require approval and a minimum of one (1) weeks notification must be given to the Ngaanyatjarra Council office in Alice Springs in order to facilitate approval.

Anyone wishing to visit the Giles Weather Station will require a permit with approval granted from the Warakurna Community so applications will be treated as per the above paragraph.

Roads such as the Mulga Park Road requires approval and the road from Blackstone to Warburton is a private road not open to travel.
