Severe Weather Warning
for damaging winds and heavy rain
for people in the Gascoyne and Central West forecast districts
Issued at 9:43 pm WST on Monday 6 May 2013.
For people in parts of WA in an area west of a line from Coral Bay to Gascoyne Junction to Murchison to Geraldton. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Coral Bay, Cape Cuvier, Carnarvon, Denham, Gascoyne Junction, Kalbarri, Northampton and Geraldton.
Weather Situation
A strong cold front is approaching from the west and will move through the region from late Tuesday afternoon. Severe thunderstorms may accompany the passage of the front.
Storms may be accompanied by
- DAMAGING WINDS
- HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING.
- LARGE HAIL
Storms could cause DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
This type of weather is unusual for this time of year and may produce dangerous conditions in localised areas.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture.
- Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit.
- Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area.
- Move vehicles under cover.
- Boat owners should securely moor their boats.
- Campers should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
The next warning will be issued by 5:00 am WST Tuesday.
