Strategic Research Fund for the Marine Environment (SRFME)

The Strategic Research Fund for the Marine Environment (SRFME) is an exciting initiative for Western Australia, which will lead to much greater knowledge and understanding of the marine environment on the western and southern coasts of the state.

SRFME is a 5-year (to 2006), $20 million joint venture between the CSIRO Division of Marine Research and the Western Australia Government. The State Government is represented in the joint venture by the principal agencies involved in marine resource development and conservation: Department of Fisheries, Department of Conservation and Land Management, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the Department of Industry and Technology.

The purpose of SRFME is to invest in strategic research on the WA marine environment in a way which enhances capability and capacity for marine science, encourages collaboration amongst the WA research community and delivers strategic research outcomes which will have long term benefits to the state.
