The oceanography and meteorology of the Timor Sea is an important focus area for WAGOOS to champion. At the AMOS-WAGOOS workshop held in September 2002, there was wide support for establishing an initiative focused on the Australian Northwest shelf-Timor Sea area.

The project title “PIT” was decided largely based on the interest of Woodside Petroleum and the relationship of internal waves to the Indonesian Strait(s) throughflow. Since the development of this plan it was decided to expand the project into the North Coast Data and Information Exchange.

The NCDIE web page will be populated with useful information to be shared with all partners and anyone else in the global GOOS community who needs it. There may be opportunities for joint planning of activities or shared ship time and collaborative workshops or outreach to the user communities.
