The website aims to increase awareness of water use responsibilities by allowing users to search current water restrictions by State or Territory, water agency and restriction name.
Water restrictions are commonly applied around the country to reduce urban water demand during periods of drought and water shortage.
Under the Water Regulations 2008 water agencies are required to alert the Bureau of changes to water restrictions. Water agencies notify the Bureau of changes through an online portal and these changes are reflected in the national Water Restrictions website.
