Total River Murray diversions for 2009–10 associated with the Class 6 (formerly metropolitan Adelaide) licence were supplied by Department for Water from unpublished data provided to the MDB Ministerial Council in December 2010.

Potable transfers through the SRSPL into the Adelaide Region were not metered with a single flow gauge. These volumes were estimated using several methods for different components:
A shapefile of the Adelaide Region was used to extract the service point numbers (SPNs) of meters within the Adelaide Region from the SA Water GIS database, which were supplied with potable water from the Swan Reach WTPs. The SPNs were used to extract readings for individual water meters from the SA Water CSIS database for 2009–10.
Water consumption was calculated by analysing the difference between consecutive meter readings and summed for 2009–10. To account for meter readings that occurred immediately before or after 2009–10, metered consumption was apportioned based on the equation:

Vm = volume for metered period (kL)
Vr = volume for metered period within 2009–10(kL)
tm = length of period between meter readings (days)
tr = length of metered period within 2009–10 (days).
Releases from SRSPL to the Little Para River were metered by a flow gauge. Metered flow for 2009–10 was obtained from the SA Water SCADA database.

This figure only relates to transfers associated with the River Murray Class 6 (formerly metropolitan Adelaide) licence. SA Water also transfers River Murray water associated with other River Murray licences, such as River Murray Class 3a (formerly irrigation), for third parties, including Barossa Infrastructure Limited (BIL), into the Adelaide Region.

This component includes some River Murray water that was delivered directly to the water distribution system (i.e. the urban potable supply for northern Adelaide and delivery to BIL, but have been lumped into a single term for simplicity). Two other line items have been added to correct this oversimplification—line item 14.10 Other lumped surface water decreases to decrease connected surface water and line item 19.7 Other lumped water distrtibution system increases to increase the water distribution system by the appropriate volume.
