28.1.3.3 Adjustment and forfeiture of groundwater allocation—industrial and commercial holder

Supporting information

The volume reported in the water accounting statement (439 ML) represents the forfeiture on industrial and commercial groundwater licences issued for the three prescribed areas in the Adelaide region: Barossa Prescribed Water Resource Area (PWRA), McLaren Vale Prescribed Wells Area (PWA) and Northern Adelaide Plains PWA. The 2009–10 forfeiture is itemised by management area in the table below.

Data source

South Australian Department for Water: Water Information and Licensing Management Application (WILMA) database.

Data provider

South Australian Department for Water.

Method

Groundwater allocations for industrial and commercial use occur in the Barossa Prescribed Water Resource Area (PWRA), Northern Adelaide Plains Prescribed Wells Area (PWA) and McLaren Vale PWA. Allocation and extraction data for 2009–10 were extracted from the WILMA licensing database and used to calculate adjustment and forfeiture (referred to as the ‘unused authorisation to take’ by Department for Water) as shown in the table below.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

Strictly speaking, the allocation remaining (referred to as ‘unused authorisations to take’ by Department for Water) is forfeited at the end of the water year and results in a credit towards allocations for the following water year.
