The volume reported in the water accounting statement (159 ML) represents the forfeiture on stock and domestic groundwater licences issued for the Northern Adelaide Plains Prescribed Wells Area (PWA). Stock and domestic groundwater allocations only occur in the Northern Adelaide Plains PWA when there is a request to extract water for stock and domestic water purposes on a bore licenced for another purpose, typically irrigation. Stock and domestic extraction in the Adelaide region is more usually associated with a basic right.

Allocation and metered extraction data for 2009–10 were extracted from the WILMA licensing database for Northern Adelaide Plains PWA. Carryover is not permitted in this prescribed area. The allocation and metered extraction data were used to calculate forfeiture (referred to as the ‘unused authorisation to take’ by Department for Water), as shown in the table below.
