The volume reported in the water accounting statement (18,098 ML) represents the forfeiture on groundwater irrigation licences issued for the three prescribed areas in the Adelaide Region: Barossa Prescribed Water Resource Area (PWRA), McLaren Vale Prescribed Wells Area (PWA) and Northern Adelaide Plains PWA. The 2009–10 forfeiture is itemised by management area in the table below.

Groundwater allocations for irrigation occur in the Barossa Prescribed Water Resource Area (PWRA), Northern Adelaide Plains Prescribed Wells Area (PWA) and McLaren Vale PWA. Allocation, carryover and extraction data for 2009–10 were extracted from the WILMA licencing database and used to calculate adjustment and forfeiture (referred to as the ‘unused authorisation to take’ by Department for Water), as shown in the table below.
