Quantification approach

Data source

SA Water: Geographic Information System (GIS) database, storage tank register and Maximo system.

Data provider

SA Water.

Method

GIS analysis was used to identify potable water tanks and pipes within the Adelaide Region. The volume of water in these tanks and pipes was estimated from their total capacity. Some tanks (approximately 5%) do not have a capacity recorded in the SA Water GIS database. These volumes were collected from SA Water’s storage tank register and Maximo system.

Uncertainty

Ungraded.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

  • Process tanks and pipes were assumed to be 100% full in winter while balancing tanks were assumed to be 50% full.
  • Pipes without recorded construction dates were assumed to have been constructed before 2009–10. It is assumed that all tanks were constructed before 2009–10.
