9.1.3.3 Groundwater entitlement—industrial and commercial holder

Supporting information

The volume reported in the water accounting statement (14 ML) represents carryover on groundwater allocations held for industrial and commercial purposes at the end of each financial year. It is presented with the other line items relevant to industrial and commercial groundwater licences in the table below.

The breakdown of groundwater industrial and commercial allocation remaining for the prescribed areas within the Adelaide region is detailed in the table below.

Quantification approach

Data source

South Australian Department for Water: Water Information and Licensing Management Application (WILMA) database and Drillhole Enquiry System.

Data provider

South Australian Department for Water.

Method

The McLaren Vale Prescribed Wells Area (PWA) was the only area practising carryover of groundwater allocations (referred to as ‘allocation credits’ by Department for Water) at the end of 2008–09. Carryover for 2008–09 and 2009–10 was extracted from the WILMA licensing database. The purpose of water allocations and carryover was not identified in the McLaren Vale PWA. Instead, industrial and commercial licences were identified from the original purpose assigned to the bore when constructed. This information is recorded within the Drillhole Enquiry System database.

The Barossa Prescribed Water Resources Area (PWRA) began practising carryover of groundwater allocations at the end of 2009–10. Carryover had not been calculated for Barossa at the time the Adelaide region water accounting report was compiled and hence could not be included.

Uncertainty

Ungraded.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

  • The current purpose of the groundwater licence is the same as when the bore was constructed and recorded in the Drillhole Enquiry System.
  • All bores with an industrial purpose were captured in the Drillhole Enquiry System.
  • Bores with an industrial purpose were used entirely for industrial use.
  • All allocations without an industrial purpose were assumed to be used for irrigation.
