In Victoria, all unregulated diversions are shown here except for unregulated urban diversions, which are shown under Line item 14.6.2 Diversion of unregulated flows – urban water access entitlement.

New South Wales data includes supplementary diversions in the regulated system and unregulated diversions in the unregulated systems (see the following table).

New South Wales data includes within the Macquarie–Castlereagh region (3,414 ML) that was diverted from the unregulated Fish River to the Sydney Water Corporation (for use outside of the MDB region) via the Fish River Supply Scheme under a commercial arrangement.

Quantification approach

Data source

  • Australian Capital Territory: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (30 November 2010).
  • New South Wales: NSW Office of Water’s Water Accounting section.
  • Queensland: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (31 January 2011).
  • South Australia: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (22 February 2011).
  • Victoria: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (19 January 2011).

Note: Water audit monitoring (WAM) report data are stored in the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) HYDRO database.

Data provider

MDBA.

Method

  • WAM-supplied data are either measured, modelled or estimated.
  • NSW Office of Water supplied data are prepared on a water balance approach. It implies that the movement of values during the year will balance the opening and closing balances. The forfeitures and adjustments have been checked to ensure that the closing balance reconciles.

Uncertainty

See the above table entitled ‘Diversions of unregulated flows by other lumped holders in the MDB region for 2009–10’ for the uncertainty estimates.

Approximations, assumptions, caveats/limitations

  • Estimates of uncertainty of the diversions are indicative accuracy of bulk diversions only and do not provide an uncertainty of diversions at the diversion point.
