Queensland data includes the allocation diversions in the supplemented system, where available. Queensland unsupplemented diversions may be included in this line item where it was not possible to separate the supplemented diversions from the unsupplemented diversions. This applies to the Condamine–Balonne and Border Rivers regions.

Toowoomba regional council has entitlements within the Moreton Water Resource Plan area that is outside of the Basin. Toowoomba regional council takes water from Cressbrook and Perseverance reservoirs on Cressbrook Creek, for urban purposes within the MDB. This supplements the take that Toowoomba regional council obtains from within the MDB. This transfer arrangement delivers water directly into the Toowoomba regional council’s distribution network, which is not included in the MDB region. The transferred volume for the year 2009–10, amounting to 6,000 ML (3,234 ML from Cressbrook Dam and 2,766 ML from Perseverance Dam), is therefore not reported in the water accounting statements.

Data source

  • Australian Capital Territory: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (30 November 2010).
  • New South Wales: NSW Office of Water’s Water Accounting section.
  • Queensland: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (31 January 2011).
  • South Australia: Water Audit Monitoring Report 2009–10 (22 February 2011).

Method

The WAM data supplied for this line item result from metered diversions.

Uncertainty

The uncertainty estimate for Queensland data is +/- 5% (the line item includes only Queensland data).

Approximations, assumptions, caveats/limitations

  • Estimates of uncertainty of the diversions are indicative accuracy of diversions at the abstraction point on the river only.
  • Uncertainty reported for diversion at the abstraction point account for possible errors in the data collection process.
  • Uncertainty of diversion at the diversion point: a single metered abstraction point may provide water to a range of users, under various types of entitlements (e.g. stock and domestic class). When this happens, the jurisdiction may split the metered abstraction into several classes of entitlements or types of users, according to priority rules governing the entitlements. This split has an inherent uncertainty that is not considered here.
