19.8.4 Allocation/claim diversion of regulated flows – Urban water access entitlement/arrangement

Supporting information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (360,816 ML) represents the diversions of regulated flows made by the urban retailers in the Melbourne region during 2009–10. These diversions were measured. The volume does not include water supplied to Gippsland Water (546 ML). This volume appears as part of Line item 20.6.4 Volume of non-potable water export.

The table below shows the breakdown of volumes diverted to individual urban retailers within the Melbourne region.

Quantification approach

Data source

Melbourne Water: Waterworks database.

Data provider

Melbourne Water.

Method

The volume of water diverted for urban water access entitlements was metered at the outflow point of each of the storages used to supply water to the urban water retailers. Meters are generally ultrasonic flow meters for pipes of greater than 600 mm diameter and magnetic flow meters for pipes of less than 600 mm diameter. Both types of meters have accuracy as reported by the manufacturers.

Uncertainty

Derived from metered information is +/–1%.
