Melbourne Water.
A temporary qualification of rights in the Melbourne Water supply system was in place for 2009–10.This qualification meant that no water was allocated to the environmental share of storage in the Yarra catchment under the Yarra environmental entitlement. However, on 02 April 2010, the Victorian Government announced the return of 7,000 ML per year to the Yarra River. This annual volume was allocated to the environment on a pro rata basis for the remaining days in the financial year, which equated to 1,726 ML for the remainder of 2009–10.
The water was not part of the Yarra Environmental Entitlement 2006. It was made available as part of the easing of Melbourne’s water restrictions to Stage 3 (from Stage 3A). It follows the announcement by the Victorian Government on 02 April 2010 of the return of 7,000 ML per year to the Yarra River.
