14.7.9.1 Allocation diversion of regulated surface water flows—bulk irrigator

Supporting information

The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (151,154 ML) represents the volume of water abstracted during 2009–10 from Lake Kununurra for entitlements for bulk irrigation in the Ord River Irrigation Area.

The volume includes irrigation entitlements for the Ord Irrigation Cooperative and Water Corporation customers, as well as water used for maintenance and flushing the irrigation infrastructure. Further breakdown of this information was not available in time to be published in this water accounting report.

Quantification approach

Data source

Western Australian Department of Water: Water Information (WIN) database.

Data provider

Western Australian Department of Water.

Method

The Ord Irrigation Cooperative measures the daily volume of water entering the Ord River Irrigation Area using meters located at the M1 off-take and the Packsaddle pump station.

Uncertainty

Estimated uncertainty for metered information is +/–5%.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

  • For licences that are metered, the licencee is required to install a cumulative water meter of a type approved under the Rights in Water and Irrigation (Approved Meters) Order 2009 for each water draw point under the licence. The licencee must ensure the installed meter(s) accuracy is maintained to within +/–5% of the volume metered, in field conditions.
  • Meters must be installed in accordance with the provisions of the Guidelines for Water Meter Installation(Western Australian Department of Water 2009).
