The volume recognised in the water accounting statements (7,946 ML) represents the volume of groundwater recharge to sedimentary and fractured rock aquifers in the region during 2009–10.

Assumptions, approximations and caveats/limitations

  • The estimate assumes that the annual extraction from groundwater in the region is sustainable.
  • An expansion of the monitoring bore network, and improved understanding of aquifer extent, aquifer properties and groundwater processes are required to adequately quantify the flow of groundwater in the region.
