National Overview: Urban water supply
Urban water supply was relatively similar to previous years, except in Canberra and Sydney where supply decreased marginally reflecting above average rainfall experienced in these regions.

- Six regions (Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, South East Queensland and Sydney) are predominantly urban and cover the major metropolitan areas of Australia.
- Except for Canberra and Sydney, urban water supply was similar to the previous year.
- Water supply to the Canberra and Sydney urban water systems decreased marginally, which refects the above average rainfall conditions experienced across these regions.
- Good surface water availability in Melbourne, South East Queensland and Sydney meant little or no desalinated water was produced in these regions.
- Perth relied on desalinated water for more than 40% of urban supply; desalinated water production in Adelaide decreased, which is likely due to an increase in surface water availability.
- More information on urban water use across Australia can be found in the National Performance Report.
