About us

The Water Accounting Standards Board (WASB) oversees and coordinates all AWAS development activities. We also provide advice to the Bureau of Meteorology and the National Water Account Committee (NWAC) for water accounting standards matters relevant to the National Water Account (NWA).

Our predecessor, the Water Accounting Development Committee (WADC), was established by the Natural Resources Management Ministerial Council as an independent advisory body to the National Water Initiative Committee, in February 2007.

The WASB functions as an independent expert advisory board at the Bureau. It has a dedicated support office, operating as a small unit within the Analysis and Reporting Branch of the Bureau's Water Division, and is based in Canberra.
