Geospatial Database Developer
Melbourne, Victoria

Under the Federal Government's Water for the Future plan, the role of the Bureau of Meteorology has been expanded to manage Australia's water information. The Bureau is currently seeking to employ a range of specialist staff to undertake development of the Australian Water Resources Information System (AWRIS), which will provide a comprehensive and current account of Australia's water resources. With the support of the National Water Commission (NWC), the Bureau is undertaking a long-term project to develop AWRIS into a world-leading water information system. The project involves researching, developing and applying state of the art knowledge and technologies in hydrology and information sciences.

We are currently seeking to employ a Geospatial Database Developer to assist in the development of the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric (AHGF), or Geo-fabric. The AHGF is being developed by the Bureau of Meteorology and through agreements with CSIRO and Geoscience Australia. The AHGF will be a single, consistent, national geospatial framework for hydrological features including catchment boundaries, stream, acquifers, floodplains, storages and wetlands linked to a 1" national Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The AHGF will be a key component of the Australian Water Resources Information System (AWRIS).

The Geospatial Database Developer will be responsible providing data modelling and geodatabase development support throughout the implementation of AWRIS. Proven high-level skills in data model development in the implementation of geodatabases, a demonstrated high level of knowledge of geospatial data, and GIS application programming for natural resources or other geospatial data are key requirements for success in this role.
