To secure the long term water supply of all Australians, the Australian Government has announced Water for the Future, a $12.9 billion water investment program. This includes $450 million for the 'Improving Water Information Program' administered by the Bureau of Meteorology and backed by the Commonwealth Water Act 2007 and key stakeholders. To support its expanded role in water information and to integrate it with the Bureau's previous hydrological services functions, the Bureau is building a world-class team of talented and innovative hydrologists including an exciting opportunity for a Hydrologist based at the Bureau's Victorian Regional Office to contribute to the management and development of hydrologic forecast techniques, models and systems to underpin the provision and improvement of the Bureau's flood warning services in Victoria.

This is a technical specialist positions responsible for playing a lead role in real time flood forecasting and warning operations. The role will be primarily involved in managing and providing high level input to the provision of flood forecasting and warning services but there will be some opportunities to contribute in other areas of the Water Information Services program as appropriate.

Salary range: $80,569 - $87,000 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation
