Tropical Cyclone Outlooks provide a probability forecast for potential tropical cyclone development during the coming 3 days.

When is a Tropical Cyclone Outlook issued?

Tropical Cyclone Outlooks are issued routinely on a daily basis:

• Indian Ocean (90° - 110° E): Every day
• Northwest Australia (110° - 125° E): Only November to April Inclusive
• Northern Australia (110° E to Cape York Peninsula): Only November to April Inclusive
• Eastern Australia (Coral Sea west of 160° E): Only November to April Inclusive

How often is a Tropical Cyclone Outlook issued?

Tropical Cyclone Outlooks are issued every 24 hours during the above-mentioned period. If a cyclone forms, causing warnings or watches to be issued, the outlook will usually just refer to the current warning.

What Information is included in the Tropical Cyclone Outlook?

Each Tropical Cyclone Outlook will consist of the following information:

• A statement that no cyclones are expected to develop in the next three days

OR

• A brief explanation of the weather situation
• Probabilities of development on each of the following three days.

Tropical Cyclone Outlooks are issued by Regional Offices of the Bureau of Meteorology in Perth for Indian Ocean and NW Australia, Darwin for Northern Australia and Brisbane for the Coral Sea.
