Area affected North coast, Bonaparte Gulf, NW of W.A.
Central pressure Lowest estimated 968 hPa on 4th near Port Keats.
Winds Gales along north Arnhem Land coast extended 500km north from centre on 3rd. Oil Rig Sedeo 135, 90km west of Port Keats recorded 8hrs of hurricane winds, sustained 80kts (148km/h) gusting to 100kt (185km/h) as the centre passed close by. Winds approaching storm force on the 3rd near Elcho Is. when it moved inland.
Rainfall Heaviest rains in Coburg Peninsula & Goulburn Is. area (cumulative totals exceeded 250mm over a large area). Highest 24hr total was 250mm at Croker Is. on 3rd. Port Keats reported 167mm on 5th. Highest cumulative total at Murganella 1st to 5th, 590mm
Seas & storm surge Rough to very rough seas 350 - 500km around centre from 2nd to 4th and also along NW coast and Bonaparte Gulf from 4th to 6th. Very high tides at Gove and Yirrkala.
Damage Four fishermen from Goulburn Is. drowned in a small boat. Some tree damage, but wind damage surprisingly light. Milingimbi lost its school roof. At Maningrida lines and aerials were blown down.
