Area affected Gulf of Carpentaria, Cape York Peninsula, Northern Qld.
Central pressure Lowest observed 974 hPa near west coast of Cape York Peninsula on 2nd. Lowest estimated 964 hPa.
Winds Sustained winds 87kts (161km/h) at Edward River Mission, Mitchell River Mission and Rutland Plains for 12 hours. No hurricane force winds reported from N.T. stations.
Rainfall Heavy in Arnhem Land on 1st. Yirrkala received 248mm in 24hrs on 1st. Heaviest in Gulf country of Qld (Croyden 368 mm in 24hrs on the 5th. Edward River had 197mmon the 4th.
Seas & storm surge Very rough on 29th northwest of incipient cyclone, and continuing rough in Gulf until 2nd Feb. Storm surge of 18feet (5.5m).
Damage Trees blown over on Western Peninsula. Widespread flooding (Phenomenal in Qld) Edward and Mitchell River Mission (Qld) devastated. Damage estimated at 300,000 pounds. Little damage in the N.T.
