Area affected Gulf of Carpentaria, Eastern Arnhem Land, Burketown - Normanton area of Qld.
Central pressure Lowest estimated 975 hPa prior to landfall on Arnhem Land coast, later 970 hPa in the southeast Gulf.
Winds Highest reported wind 158 km/h at Burketown (Qld). Gales over northeast Arnhem Land when Jason moved overland on 10th. Maximum gust at Gove 47kts (87km/h).
Rainfall Moderate to heavy falls over Groote Eylandt and Northeast Arnhem Land. Highest 24hr total 221mm at Elcho Island.
Seas & storm surge Very rough to high seas in Gulf on 9th and later on 12th and 13th. Storm surge of 2m reported at Karumba but surge up to 3.5m estimated along coast further west.
Damage Severe damage to outpost NT communities of Baniyalla and Gapuwiyak (near Lake Evalla). Minor damage also in Burketown.
