Changes To The Bureau's Radar Viewer and Introduction of New Doppler Radar Services
From Wednesday 8 August 2007, the Bureau's radar viewer will include new map features and weather observation overlays.
In addition to the upgraded radar viewer, new rainfall products for the Brisbane and Adelaide Doppler radars, and a new wind field representation available from the Adelaide, Brisbane and Yarrawonga radars will be introduced on Wednesday 8 August 2007.
The New Radar Viewer
These enhancements to the radar viewer have been developed as part of the Radar Network and Doppler Services Upgrade Project (RNDSUP) and will be available for all radars in the Bureau's network.
The enhanced radar viewer allows you to customise the radar map so that you can choose to display map features that will help you locate rainfall in relation to your city or town, or in relation to other locations or areas that you are interested in.
Below the map there will be a number of map layers that can be toggled
on and off as needed.
These include:
Roads
Railways
River
Basins (or catchments)
Topography
(land contours)
Locations
Weather
Forecast Districts
Lakes
& major rivers
Range
rings (20, 40, 50, 60, 100 and 200 kilometre distances from the radar, depending
on the selected radar view), and
Weather
Observations (from selected sites, updated on the hour).
In addition, in the Weather Observations view, you can move the mouse over the weather report location to access more weather details and, if you wish, you can double-click the mouse to see the last 72 hours of weather observations from that site.

The New Doppler Radar Services
Rainfall Products These new rainfall products have been developed as part of the Radar Network
and Doppler Services Upgrade Project (RNDSUP) and will be available initially

Doppler Wind Images
A demonstration display of Doppler wind fields will be available from the
Doppler radars installed to date (Brisbane, Adelaide and Yarrawonga), giving
an indication of local wind speed and direction variations.
