Aims:

• The production of specialised Antarctic meteorological analyses, prognoses and forecasts for the Australian Antarctic Territory;
• To derive products such as sea ice analyses from satellite imagery obtained from High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) reception facilities installed at Casey;
• To transmit specialised products to clients (e.g. ANARE helicopter operations) and to broadcast a limited number of products of general interest, such as sea ice analyses;
• To be a data source for research undertaken at the Antarctic Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) at the University of Tasmania.

Forecasts and other services of the AMC:

• Public weather type forecasts for Casey; ad hoc forecasts for field trips;
• Public weather type forecasts issued for Davis and Mawson when the Davis forecaster is unavailable;
• Marine forecasts for the Aurora Australis during marine science voyages, and for other ships when requested;
• Advice to the Antarctic Division and others on the ice disposition around the stations;
• Archiving of satellite data;
• Twice daily issue of high seas forecasts;
• Automatic transmission of mosaic weather and sea-ice images to the Bureau's McIDAS system;
• Transmission of sea-ice images to the Antarctic Division at Kingston for downloading to users such as ANARE resupply vessels.
