Warning Summary at issue time

Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm east of Gabo Island.

Weather Situation

A high pressure system over the Bight will remain to the west of Victoria during the rest of today and Tuesday while a cold front moves from the Southern Ocean, across Tasmania, to the Tasman Sea. The high will then cross Victoria late Wednesday and will be centred over the Tasman Sea on Thursday. The next cold front will move across southern Victoria on Friday.

Forecast for Monday until midnight

Winds: Westerly 25 to 30 knots. Seas: 2 to 3 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Southeasterly 1 metre.

Forecast for Tuesday

Winds: Westerly 25 to 30 knots tending west to southwesterly 30 to 35 knots during the morning then becoming southwesterly 25 to 30 knots later in the evening. Seas: 2 to 3 metres increasing to 3 to 4 metres around midday. Swell: Southwesterly 0.5 to 1.5 metres. Swell: Southeasterly about 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Wednesday

Winds: West to southwesterly 20 to 30 knots becoming southwesterly 20 to 25 knots during the morning then tending west to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots later in the evening. Seas: Up to 3 metres decreasing to 2 metres during the afternoon. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Southeasterly 1 to 2 metres.

Forecast for Thursday

Winds: Westerly 10 to 15 knots locally reaching 20 knots in the south at first. Afternoon seabreezes to 15 knots. Seas: Up to 1.5 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Southeasterly about 1.5 metres.
