Warning Summary at issue time

Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Mallacoota and 60nm east of Gabo Island.

Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and Mallacoota.

Weather Situation

A cold front crossing waters south of the Bight will move across Bass Strait Sunday, expected near Portland 0600hrs, Wilsons Promontory 1100hrs, Mallacoota 1500hrs. A high pressure system over the Bight will remain to the west of Victoria during Monday and Tuesday as further cold fronts move from the Southern Ocean, across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. The high will then cross Victoria late Wednesday.

Forecast for Saturday until midnight

Winds: Southwesterly 10 to 20 knots tending south to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots later in the evening. Seas: Up to 1.5 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Northeasterly 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Sunday

Winds: West to southwesterly 10 to 20 knots tending westerly up to 30 knots around dawn then tending west to southwesterly 25 to 35 knots around midday. Winds southwesterly 25 to 30 knots later in the evening. Seas: Up to 1.5 metres increasing up to 4 metres around dawn. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Northeasterly 1 to 2 metres.

Forecast for Monday

Winds: West to southwesterly 25 to 30 knots decreasing to 15 to 25 knots around dawn. Seas: Up to 3 metres decreasing to 2 metres during the afternoon. Swell: Southwesterly about 2 metres. Swell: Northeasterly about 1 metre.

Forecast for Tuesday

Winds: West to southwesterly about 30 knots. Seas: Up to 3 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Northeasterly 0.5 metres.
